Before we lead with the courage to speak our truth, we need to establish a foundation of support, and the ability to resource. We also need to be able to navigate the challenges of a structural system that was designed to keep a diversity of perspectives out of positions of power, and to maintain and reinforce a dominant culture meant to keep producing in a way that is unsustainable for humans, other living things, and the Earth’s natural resources. We have an inkling of what needs to be done. But without listening to our own truth and having the resources needed to speak it, the systems continue to cause harm while we stand by, feeling helpless.
The good news is that you can be part of the change. It starts with remembering who you really are and by designing a leadership map that is sustainable to your well-being and circumstance.

Eli PaintedCrow
Eli is from the Yaqui Nation in Tucson, Arizona, and is a 22-year retired Army veteran. Her last tour in Iraq profoundly changed her, inspiring her to advocate for peace, unity, and the healing of Mother Earth. As a mother of two sons, both disabled veterans, and a grandmother of eight, she deeply understands the impact of military service.
Living in the Central Valley of California, Eli's work focuses on helping women remember their sovereignty and purpose. A ceremonialist elder, she facilitates healing circles, sharing Indigenous wisdom and promoting balance with our planet. With experience as a soldier, social worker, and counselor, Eli supports those committed to positive change.
Hilary Giovale
Hilary carries herself with a deep care and humility in this work. For those of you who have read my book and are seeking more in your personal or leadership exploration, Hilary's voice will likely be one you will go back to again and again. Her story is rich, intimate and relatable.
“Becoming a Good Relative is a prayer and manual for societal change, urging us to reexamine our relationships with history, culture, and each other. Hilary’s exploration serves as a blueprint for engaging in the world with reverence, love, and a deep sense of responsibility towards fostering equitable relationships across difference.”
